Government has caved into public pressure, passing a resolution meeting the demands of anti-corruption activist Hazare.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has sent a letter to cabinet ministers asking them to disclose their assets in an effort to show greater transparency by his government which has been plagued with a series of corruption scandals, the Hindustan Times reported on Tuesday.

Singh's beleaguered Congress-led government has faced almost two weeks of anti-graft protests led by a 74-year-old self-styled Gandhian activist Anna Hazare, who went on hunger strike to pressure parliament to back a strong anti-corruption law and rallying millions of people mainly from India's urban middle classes.

The government caved into public pressure over the weekend, passing a resolution meeting the demands of Hazare.

As per the code of conduct, ministers are required to inform details of his or her assets and liabilities – and those of their family members – including business interests, information on all immovable property, value of shares and debentures, cash holdings and jewellery by August 31, said the report.
