UNITED NATIONS, Jan 5 (Reuters) - The United Nations will soon ask the Security Council to approve between 1,000 and 2,000 additional peacekeepers for the Ivory Coast, the U.N. peacekeeping chief said on Wednesday.
A formal request should reach the 15-nation council in the coming days, U.N. under-secretary-general for peacekeeping operations Alain Le Roy told Reuters in an interview. He added that he hoped the new peacekeepers could be deployed to the Ivory Coast within the next few weeks.
