DUBAI, Sept 2 (Reuters) - A small fire erupted on a pipeline in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province on Tuesday after unidentified assailants shot at a security patrol, a Saudi security source said.

The fire has been extinguished and there was no impact on oil or gas production, the security source said.

A source in the Saudi oil industry said the pipeline transported gas, not oil, and has been repaired. (Reporting by Rania El Gamal; Writing by David Sheppard in London; Editing by Michael Urquhart)
