KABUL, May 17 (Reuters) - Two NATO helicopters supporting a coalition base in eastern Afghanistan came under fire twice from across the Pakistan border, and returned fire the second time, a western military official told Reuters on Tuesday.

The official declined to comment on whether the helicopters had crossed the border or fired into Pakistan from Afghan airspace.

Local intelligence officials from northwest Pakistan said on Tuesday that two Pakistani troops were wounded by NATO helicopters that crossed the border.
