AJDABIYAH, Libya, April 7 (Reuters) - Forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi bombarded the entrance to the rebel-held eastern Libyan town of Ajdabiyah on Thursday, a rebel fighter said.

"People have pulled back because Gaddafi's forces have bombarded the gate," said the rebel, who did not give his name and who was about 3 km (2 miles) away from the western entrance to the town.

Reuters correspondent Michael Georgy saw rebels driving away from the western entrance, where they have set up a checkpoint. He also heard blasts from that direction. (Reporting by Michael Georgy; Writing by Edmund Blair in Cairo)
