Help the women and girls fleeing the escalating violence
in Ivory Coast

Eliane

Eliane is 16 years old. She was pregnant when she arrived at the camp for internally displaced persons (IDP). The midwife from IPPF’s  Member Association, AIBEF, diagnosed a breech position. She was referred to the hospital where she delivered by C-section. Eliane and her baby, named Jacqueline, are well today thanks to the services provided by AIBEF.

Civil war

1 million people have fled their homes to avoid mounting violence over a disputed Presidential election result. This has pushed the country to the brink of civil war.

IPPF urgently needs your help to provide life saving safe delivery and reproductive health services to Ivorians forced from their homes.

Women in Ivory Coast have more than just bullets to worry about. After violent ethnic clashes near her home in Duékoué, Therese was forced to flee. She was reluctant to go too far from medical facilities as she was heavily pregnant. AIBEF's 24 hour clinic was a lifeline when Therese went into labour. Braving the running battles and gunfire in the streets, she raced to visit AIBEF’s midwife.  Please help IPPF help the most vulnerable women and girls.

The midwife immediately organised safe passage for Therese to the closest hospital, where her baby was born safely. Now, nearly one month later, both are doing well, despite the ongoing troubles.

What IPPF’s Member association AIBEF is providing:

  • A Health Post within the IDP site at the Catholic Mission of Duékoué
  • 2 midwives, 1 nurse aid and 1 gynaecologist
  • 2 consultation rooms: equipped
  • 24/7 referrals to the Duékoué Hospital and MSF clinic
  • A network of 5 community health workers amongst the people, on the 3 IDP sites
  • They are implementing the Minimum Initial Service Package in Reproductive Health (MISP).
