GENEVA, March 18 (Reuters) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Friday that some of its aid workers had returned to the rebel-held Libyan city of Benghazi two days after withdrawing for security reasons.

"We are eager to carry on supporting hospitals, visiting detainees in Benghazi and elsewhere and working with the Libyan Red Crescent to help civilians," Simon Brooks, the ICRC's head of mission in Libya, said.

The ICRC was also moving more food and essential household items into the country to help tens of thousands of people if required, it said in a statement. (Reporting by Stephanie Nebehay; Editing by Andrew Callus)
